Between Fort Davis and Balmorhea lies Wild Rose Pass and sprawling Star Mountain. This spectacular view marks the transition between two worlds, and on this crisp fall morning, the mountains shimmered in autumn light as the sun danced through clouds. While the Texas mountains are lovely when dressedl in summer greens, I prefer painting our native grasses in the deep rusts and golds and bronzes that they wear most of the year.
From Fort Davis, the historic passage through the rugged high desert slowly rises, then crests and drops dramatically toward Star Mountain. As we viewed this early morning landscape, the clouds seemed to mirror the road and golden light gilded the earth.
